Bangor police arrested a man they described as a transient after he allegedly fled Shaw’s supermarket on Main Street Wednesday with a bottle of peppermint schnapps he hadn’t paid for.
After leaving the store, 34-year-old Ryan King reportedly ran up Hellier Street, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday. When police searched that area, they found a man matching King’s description and stopped to investigate.
Though police didn’t find the bottle, they did find the booze — inside a water bottle King was carrying, Edwards said. King was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was being held Thursday on charges of theft and violating his bail conditions.
Thursday’s arrest was King’s second in two months.
In December, Orono police arrested King and another man after the two allegedly broke into the old Striar textile mill on Ayers Island, according to Bangor Daily News archives. Both men were charged with criminal trespassing. King, who was out on bail, also was charged with violating the conditions of his release from an earlier arrest. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
Old Town police charged a local woman with theft after she allegedly tried to leave the Hannaford store with a combination of items she paid for and some she did not.
The items that Mandy Jones, 25, did not purchase were two bottles of Captain Morgan rum and a package of baby wipes, Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey said Thursday, citing a police report. The rum and wipes were valued at $48, according to the report.
Jones, who was not arrested, is scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center in March. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
