Lincoln woman’s vehicle catches fire on interstate

A Lincoln woman heading south on Interstate 95 Monday morning pulled her car to the side of the highway in Argyle after she noticed smoke in her car, Maine State Police Trooper Josh D’Angelo said.

“Her car started to fill with smoke and she pulled over and the car quickly caught fire,” he said.

Alicia Theriault was not injured in the 8:30 a.m. fire, but her 2001 Jeep Cherokee was demolished, D’Angelo said.

Members of the Alton Fire Department received the vehicle fire report and went to mile marker 201. I-95 was closed for about 15 minutes while they extinguished the flames, D’Angelo said.

Shortly after the fire was out, one lane of I-95 was reopened to traffic and Sullivan’s Automotive Service of Old Town towed the vehicle, he said. The roadway reopened at around 9:30 a.m.
