DEXTER, Maine — The Dexter High School Key Club is sponsoring a Recycles Week this week through Saturday, Jan. 29, to promote recycling education and to collect certain recyclables.
The club will be set up in the lobby each morning through Friday to collect computer ink cartridges, old cell phones and aluminum can tabs for Shriner hospitals. The collected items are recycled for cash, and all of the money raised goes to charity.
The charities benefiting from the collected items are the Shriner hospitals, Camp Sunshine, the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Children’s Floating Hospital at Tufts Medical Center, and Children of Peace International.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, the Key Club will be at the Mid-Maine Solid Waste transfer station to collect the same items. This will give the public a chance to recycle used items and to become better educated on the need to recycle them.
