Alexander fire destroys one-story house

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

ALEXANDER, Maine — A one-story home on Flat Road was destroyed Monday afternoon by fire.
Alexander Assistant Fire Chief David Sullivan said the owners, Calvin James and Stacy Spatcher, were not home when the fire first was reported at 3 p.m.
Sullivan said that no one was injured in the fire, which had engulfed the home when firefighters from Alexander, Calais and Baileyville arrived. He said about 18 firefighters went to the fire.
He said the home was a total loss and the couple were insured.
“The damage was so intense that the roof collapsed into the building,” Sullivan said. He said firefighters were able to save a nearby barn with three horses inside.
He said the damage was so severe that the cause of the fire is undetermined.
