FALMOUTH, Maine — Police in Maine say a woman was lucky to have suffered only minor injuries when she drove her car into the path of an oncoming train.

Falmouth police say the train hit the car around noon Monday on the Blackstrap Road, ripping off the back end of the car and sending the vehicle into a snowbank.

Police said the driver, whose name was not released, apparently didn’t see the train lights flashing, perhaps because of the glare of the sun.
