A Bangor man who was caught stealing from Shaw’s supermarket on Main Street on Sunday evening was arrested but got a ride home to drop off the items he paid for while en route to jail, Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Monday.

William Rodgerson, 24, paid for a few items, including some soda, during his 6 p.m. shopping spree, but tried to leave the store without paying for some candy bars and a pregnancy test, which totaled around $45, he said.

Officer Chris Blanchard arrested Rodgerson on suspicion of theft but gave him a ride to his brother’s apartment to drop off the items he paid for before dropping him off at Penobscot County Jail. He remained in jail on Monday afternoon, a jail official said.

BANGOR, Maine — A local woman who is wanted in New Hampshire gave local police a fake name Sunday afternoon when they stopped her for stealing some DVDs from a store at the Airport Mall, Sgt. Paul Edward said on Monday.

Ann Cradock, 26, was stopped by police at 3:40 p.m. at the junction of 14th and Ohio streets and was arrested and charged with theft. She gave police another woman’s name and signed the theft paperwork using that name, the sergeant said.

Her lie was discovered when she was getting booked into Penobscot County Jail and “a jail intake officer recognized her,” Edwards said.

Cradock then was charged with unsworn falsification for signing the theft paperwork and also for the warrant issued out of New Hampshire, he said. She remained in jail Monday afternoon, a jail official said.
