BANGOR, Maine — A Massachusetts man is spending the entire four-day state shutdown holiday weekend in jail while awaiting multiple charges stemming from a car theft early Thursday evening.

Steven Dearborn, 46, of Jamaica Plain, Mass., allegedly stole a car from the Airport Mall parking lot off Union Street and stole another vehicle from the lot at Dysart’s restaurant in Hermon before finally being arrested in Hampden.

Dearborn was summoned for unauthorized use of property, burglary of a motor vehicle and operating after suspension, according to Bangor Police Department records.

The investigation into the spree involved law enforcement officers from Bangor, Hampden and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

The first vehicle was reported missing from a parking spot in front of the Fashion Bug clothing store at 1129 Union Street at 6:04 p.m. on Thursday and recovered at Dysart’s at approximately 8 p.m.

A clerk at Penobscot County Jail confirmed that Dearborn was incarcerated and awaiting a Tuesday afternoon court hearing.
