Maine police remind motorists: Scrape your whole windshield

The Associated Press

LEWISTON, Maine — A Police Department is reminding motorists to clear snow and ice from their windshields before driving after a storm or face a fine.

Lewiston police Officer Craig Johnson says there are two main causes of accidents after a storm: slippery roads and reduced visibility, which can be caused by drivers not clearing their windows of snow and ice.

Maine law says windshields and windows have to be 100 percent clear. The potential penalty is a $135 fine.

Johnson tells the Sun Journal newspaper that in too many cases motorists become lazy and don’t clean all the glass.
