USM holds off Rhode Island College

GORHAM — Courtney Cochran scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 74-71 women’s basketball victory over Rhode Island College Tuesday night.

Haley Jordan added 16 points for the winners and Erin McNamara notched six assists.

Rachel Riley paced RIC with 21 points.

At Waterville, Thomas College hit four 3-pointers in overtime to overpower North Atlantic Conference foe University of Maine at Farmington.

Mallorie Blakney hit three of her six 3-pointers in overtime and grabbed her 1,000th career point in the first half. She totaled 30 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Karin Bird added 21 points and went 12-for-14 from the free throw line. Kellie Martel tallied 11 points and four assists and Alexis Evans added nine points and 10 rebounds.

At Lewiston, Jill Henrikson scored 16 points as Bowdoin College topped Bates College to earn its 12th win.

Kaitlin Donahoe and Amy Hackett each scored 10 points for the Bobcats. Nicole Coombes grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kelsey Flaherty led Bates with 15 points. Allie Beaulieu scored 11 points and Jessie Igoe added 10 points. Christine McCall grabbed 12 rebounds and Lauren Dobish recorded six assists.

At Castine, Andy Ball led four players in double-digits with 19 points in helping lead the Maine Maritime Academy past the University of Maine at Augusta.

Paul Campbell scored 16 points for the Mariners while Shawn Dostie added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Russell tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Dom Drake chipped in nine assists.

Orlando Williams had 20 points, 10 rebounds and went 12-for-15 for the Moose. Wily Walter had 14 points and 14 rebounds. He also went 10-for-12 from the line. David Prior scored 11 points.
