AUGUSTA, Maine — A rally in Maine to show support for the national health care law is being postponed in the wake of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ shooting this weekend.
Nine groups advocating for seniors, labor, women and other causes had planned the Monday rally at the State House to urge Gov. Paul LePage and Attorney General William Schneider to support the Affordable Care Act.
The Maine Can Do Better Coalition instead released a statement saying it’s “deeply troubled” by the assassination attempt that has left at least six people dead and another dozen or more injured. The coalition also said this is a day to put aside political differences and stand together as a nation.
