Rail cars back on track after derailment in Bangor

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR — Railroad police are looking into the cause of a minor derailment on Sunday night that sent eight cars off the tracks near Hancock Street.

Though the cars derailed, they remained upright and did not spill their respective loads, according to Cynthia Scarano, a spokeswoman from Pan Am Railways’ headquarters in North Billerica, Mass.

Scarano said Monday afternoon that six of the rail cars involved were carrying paper and that two were empty. The train was traveling from Bucksport toward Northern Maine Junction when the mishap occurred, she said.

No one was injured in connection with the derailment, Scarano said. She said all of the affected cars were back on the tracks by 3:15 p.m. Monday.
