LUDLOW – Roger Leland McGary, 79, husband of Elizabeth (Dickinson) McGary, passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2011, at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Smyrna Mills, the son of Clifford and Enza (Dewitt) McGary. Roger attended Ricker College for three and a half years before joining the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home he joined his dad and mom working on the family farm. He worked hard and enjoyed growing potatoes, and during slower times he would work in the woods. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing and telling hunting stories. Roger also loved the Lord and read his Bible every day. He wrote many songs and poetry, and two of his poems can be found in the Library of Congress. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Ludlow; his children, John L. and his wife, Kalara, of Howland, Roger W. and his wife, Dezray, of Houlton, Anna McGary Robinson and her husband, Ted, of Sedgwick and Nathan Richardson and his wife, Patti, of Rochester, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Through the years, Roger and Elizabeth opened their home to 13 foster children. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at Dunn Funeral Home, where services with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday.
