Slick roads in Hancock County cause several accidents

By Rich Hewitt, BDN Staff

ELLSWORTH, Maine — Light, steady snow Saturday afternoon created slick roads in Hancock County resulting in more than a dozen accidents in a three-hour span.

Most of the accidents occurred between 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday and they happened mainly in two locations, according to reports from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. There were six accidents on Route 1 in Hancock and five on Mason Hill in Blue Hill near the St. Francis Episcopal Church. In some cases, vehicles crashed as they tried to avoid an earlier crash, and in others, drivers were unable to avoid the crashed vehicle.

There were no serious injuries in any of the accidents, but in some cases, the vehicles were demolished.
