AUGUSTA, Maine — Skiers will try racing for the first time this weekend on some newly created trails in the city.

The city owned Bond Brook Recreation Area is the site of Sunday’s Nordic ski race.

The Kennebec Journal reports the races start at 10 a.m. with the Bill Koch League race for children in grades kindergarten through grade eight, followed by a New England Nordic Ski Association-sanctioned mens 10K freestyle race at 11 a.m. and womens 10K freestyle at 12:30 p.m.

The city is creating 17-plus miles of four-season, multiuse trails on 268 acres of the recreation area.
