PRESQUE ISLE – Anna W. York, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Unterlohma, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Mayer) Weinman. While Anna and her husband, Walter, were raising their children they had many happy moments camping, fishing and swimming up in the northern Maine woods. She had a love for coffee and would never pass up a cup if offered. Anna worked for many years at Presque Isle Nursing Home as a certified nurse’s aide. She loved the people she cared for and always looked forward to seeing them. Above all she loved her family and enjoyed all the special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Walter York Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Fort Fairfield and Joseph York and his wife, Rosemary, of Presque Isle; three daughters, Judy Wasson of Stratham, N.H., Shirley Maynard and her husband, Brian, of Washburn and Susan York of Presque Isle; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters, Marianne Dinsenbacher, Margaret Hackspiel and Magdelina Grode, all of Germany. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter York Sr., July 7, 1996; as well as four siblings and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service. A reception will be offered after the service in the gathering area of the funeral home. A committal service will take place in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
