LEWISTON, Maine — A Maine company that sells slippers, socks and other footwear says it’s been bought by the world’s largest umbrella maker.

Acorn Products Co., which was started in Lewiston in 1976, tells the Sun Journal that it has been sold to Totes Isotoner for an undisclosed price.

Acorn President and CEO John Donnelly said some administrative positions now located in Lewiston will be absorbed by the larger Totes Isotoner operations over time. The company employs 25 people.

Donnelly said Acorn’s Lewiston office serves primarily as the company’s marketing arm, with production based overseas in Mexico and China.

Totes Isotoner, based in Cincinnati, says it is the world’s largest marketer of umbrellas, gloves, slippers and other weather-related accessories.
