WATERVILLE, Maine — A day before he takes the oath as Maine’s governor, Paul LePage will attend his final meeting as mayor of Waterville.

LePage is expected to resign during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The Republican has been Waterville mayor since 2003.

When LePage steps down, Council Chairman Dana Sennett is expected to take over many of the mayoral duties, such as presiding over meetings and signing documents. Sennett told the Morning Sentinel of Waterville that the city is losing a mayor, but the state is getting a good governor.

The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
