How should Maine craft its sex offender laws?

The Legislature is likely to pass an updated law or laws addressing the federal requirement to have a sex offender registry. The Department of Justice granted Maine a one-year extension to comply with the provisions of the law last summer. What are the key components you would like to see in these laws? Should the state relinquish efforts to restrict where offenders can live, and instead focus on notification? Should schools focus

more on preventative education, so children are less likely to become victims? With most victims being assaulted by family members or family friends, is the fear of an anonymous predator unduly driving public policy?
