PORTLAND, Maine — A bail hearing is scheduled for this week for a southern Maine man charged in the shooting death of another man who allegedly was on the defendant’s property to steal marijuana.
Joseph Green of Windham is charged with manslaughter in the Aug. 31 death of David Harmon. He faces a bail hearing on Thursday.
Prosecutors had sought a murder indictment against Green, but a Cumberland County grand jury decided there was probable cause to charge him with manslaughter. Green’s been in jail since his arrest Sept. 7.
Friends and relatives of Green tell the Maine Sunday Telegram that the manslaughter charge is unwarranted, and that Green had the right to use a firearm in defense of his property.
