Northern Maine lament
Attitudes represented on the wind power issue reflect an agenda from the “other,” wealthier Maine telling us here in northern Maine what to do with our property. Southern Maine thinks its poor relations up here in northern Maine need no new investment. Southern Maine continues to use its overweighed voting bloc in Augusta to kill many viable projects, i.e. Plum Creek, LNG, casinos, etc.
After all, southern Maine wants to keep the northern area of the state as its backyard playground, complete with indentured servants. Further, wealthier southern Maine gets all the help it needs from Augusta, because Augusta works on money from special interest lobbies exclusively.
There is an unjust voting structure formula by county population that needs a rewrite in the state constitution! How about from now on we here in northern Maine get to vote on all new business and construction in southern Maine, using a new representation structure in Augusta that removes the “overweighed vote” that continues to stifle growth here in northern Maine.
Better yet, perhaps it is time for secession! Then, in the new state of Northern Maine, we can begin to shed this Big Brother-Sister overlord act!
From now on, the terms “from away” and “flatlander” will apply to those from Waterville south.
