NORTHPORT, Maine — A two-vehicle crash Friday morning sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to Deputy David Mushrall of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Bjorn Streubel, 60, of Belfast had been traveling east on Route 1 in a 1992 GMC Suburban when he began to turn left into the Northport Redemption Center at about 9:40 a.m. Driver Steven Bowden, 35, of Northport also was heading east and rear-ended Streubel’s vehicle, Mushrall said.

Bowden, who was driving a 2004 GMC pickup truck, complained of pain and was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, along with Streubel’s passenger John Richardson, 59, of Lincolnville, who had the same complaint.

Mushrall said there were no charges at this time and that it is unknown whether speed was a factor. Both vehicles were demolished, he said.

The Northport Fire Department and Belfast EMS assisted the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in response to the crash.
