The hairy woodpecker, taken on the East Trail in the Bangor city forest. I'm always amazed at the approachability of busy woodpeckers. The constant movement and jack-hammering of their heads make for a difficult photo, but the occupied bird is so distracted that a careful observer can get fairly close. It's always fun to try!
