18-wheeler crash closes Route 1 near Camden-Rockport town line

CAMDEN, Maine — A portion of Route 1 is closed after an 18-wheeler truck smashed into a utility pole around 2:30 p.m. Monday leaving traffic lights attached the pole dangling. Camden Police expect the road to reopen around 8 p.m. or later.

No one was injured in the accident that happened near the Hannaford intersection, but Sergeant Michael Geary with the Camden Police Department said the pole cracked and “has a 45-degree bend to it.”

“I’m surprised it hasn’t come down yet, but it will eventually,” Geary said of the dangling traffic light system that hangs from the snapped pole.

The police are waiting for the company that owns the poles and the lights to come fix it. Geary said there are alternate routes, including Camden Road.
