FREDERICK C. COPELAND SR.

GREENBUSH – Frederick C. “Papa Bear” Copeland Sr., 66, died peacefully Dec. 22, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was a strong and courageous man, who had survived four bouts of cancer before his heart finally gave out. Frederick was born June 7, 1944, the son of Frank W. and Frances (Norcross) Copeland. Frederick was a giving man with an open heart and he was always there for those in need. He was an animal lover and a prankster who loved playing practical jokes. He enjoyed puttering around the house, fishing, sweets, homemade meals and his citizen band radio. He especially loved this holiday season and enjoyed decorating his house and yard this time of year. Frederick was a co-owner of Copies Cab, Old Town, and he volunteered at Leonard Mills Living History Museum, Shaw House and Penquis Cap, driving children to and from daycare. Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Barbara (Simpson) Copeland of Greenbush; six children, Frederick C. Copeland II of Indian Orchard, Mass., Mary Rivera of Agawam, Mass., Bernadette Copeland of Greenbush, Michael Copeland of Blecher Town, Mass., Caryn Leighton of Wilton and Jason Copeland of Milford; stepdaughter, Becky Copeland of Corinna; 13 grandchildren, Elsa, Joey, Jonathon, Delany, Brianna and Angel, all of Massachusetts and Alexis, Matt, Mercedes, Cameron, Matt, Aaliyah and Jordon, all of Maine; his brother, Lawrence Copeland; and sister, Pam Johnston. In addition to his parents, Frederick was predeceased by his three brothers, Bruce, Grover “Squeaky” and Teddy. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the American Legion, 75 Water St., Old Town.
