UNION, Maine — An 8-year-old boy suffered minor seat-belt injuries and his father hurt his nose when their Jeep Cherokee smashed into another car on Route 17 on Christmas Day.
According to Maine State Police Trooper Jeremy Wesbrock, around 5 p.m. the driver, 32-year-old Jeremy Sawyer, fell asleep at the wheel and the Jeep crossed the centerline and smashed into a Toyota in which two people were riding, neither of whom was hurt.
Wesbrock said he received a complaint about Sawyer’s driving about six minutes before the crash, but did not get to him before he hit the Toyota car.
Both vehicles were demolished. Alcohol was not a factor, Wesbrock said.
The boy was brought to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. No word on his condition or whether he was released from the hospital was available Sunday night.
