AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s largest electric company is getting a new logo.

CMP logo

Central Maine Power says it is replacing its green pine tree logo with a symbol that incorporates a green leaf and blue and orange drops. The new logo includes elements of the brand of its parent company, the Spanish-based Iberdrola Group.

CMP says the leaf represents respect for the environment, while the drops represent energy sources used by Iberdrola — blue for wind and water, and orange for natural gas and the sun.

The new symbol will first appear on bills, printed materials and CMP’s website.

CMP says it has had many different logos over the years, with the familiar pine tree symbol introduced in the mid-1980s.
