The long-debated Wiscasset U.S. Route 1 bypass project appears to have been sidelined
by the discovery of an eagle’s nest along the proposed route. Should federal law be
changed so that such potential wildlife habitat impacts do not halt important projects? Or
should the law remain as is? Does the bypass need to be built? Are there other ways to manage the perennial summer bottleneck that occurs along the road? Should state government put a moratorium on new road constructions?
