ALLAGASH – Hope Elean McBreairty died Dec. 19, 2010, at a Bangor hospital after a valiant fight against insurmountable health issues. She was born June 12, 1932, in Allagash, daughter of Elbridge and Margaret (McBreairty) McBreairty. Hope was employed for 33 years at the Little Black Check Point, Allagash, for North Maine Woods. Her kindness and generosity, coupled with her deep faith in God, were a constant in her life. Her cooking abilities and talent for serving large gatherings were well known. She was the community member who was always sought out when food solicitation for community events was needed. She was an active member of Allagash Baptist Church. After her mother’s death, she took on her roll of sending out cards from Allagash Baptist Church to family and community members who were in the hospital. She was known far and wide for her mastery of Skip-Boo cards. She was predeceased by her husband, Theron William McBreairty, April 12, 1992; her sisters, Leola, May 16, 1928, Katrina, Sept. 23, 1934, and Ruth Iva, Oct. 17, 2002; her brothers, Glen, Feb. 9, 1931, Duncan, Nov. 24, 1984, and Leonard, Aug. 24, 2007; her father, Elbridge, Aug. 15, 1951; her mother, Margaret, Oct. 19, 1997; and her stepfather, the Rev. Philip C. Hughey Sr., Feb. 27, 1993. Surviving are her sons, Darrell and Carter McBreairty of Allagash; her daughter, Nola (McBreairty) Begin and her husband, Ransford Begin, of Allagash; and her daughters, Margaret McBreairty of Allagash and Ruth (McBreairty) Reglin of North Windham. Her surviving grandchildren include Candice (Begin) Hafford and Cindy (Begin) Hafford of Allagash, Tori Hafford of Bangor, Jarod McBreairty of Winterport, Jordan Reglin of North Windham, Jeremy and Shannon McBreairty, and Carter McBreairty Jr. of Allagash. Surviving great-grandchildren are Taylor Kelly and McKenzie Paradis of Bangor, Jayd, Abbie, Katessa and Cameron Hafford of Allagash, and Bailey and Logan McBreairty of Allagash. She is also survived by her brothers and their wives, Thomas and Helen (Kelly) McBreairty of Allagash and Carl and Mable (Miller) McBreairty of New Milford, Conn.; her stepbrother and his wife, Philip C. and Wray (Daniel) Hughey Jr. of New Bedford, Mass.; and her stepsister, Ruth (Hughey) Bubar of Muskego, Wis. Viewing hours are 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Allagash Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, with the Rev. John Dik officiating. Burial will be after the services at Allagash Baptist Cemetery.
