BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Assistant Fire Chief A.C. Bostock expected crews to spend most of Monday night at the scene of a powerful fire at the end of Pushaw Road Extension.

Bostock said a two-story home and attached barn were fully engulfed in flames when first crews arrived at the scene about 7 p.m. According to Bostock, the fire was reported by a resident who lived east of the fire scene, across Kenduskeag Stream.

Bostock said he thought the home had been abandoned “for quite some time.”

Fire departments from Hampden and Glenburn were called to the scene initially, but some trucks were sent home after hoses were connected to a nearby fire hydrant. The address of the burning home was not immediately known, but it was located near the end of Pushaw Road Extension. Residents of nearby neighborhoods gathered to watch, retreating when swirling wind pushed thick smoke to ground level.

Bostock said an investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office was en route to the scene Monday evening. He did not know whether there was electricity to the building or what might have caused the blaze.
