BUCKSPORT, Maine — The awards keep sailing in for Ryder Boat and the Union River Boat Co.
Earlier this month, SAIL magazine named the company’s Presto 30 sailboat design one of its best boats of the year, and now, Cruising World has created a special Spirit Award for the sailboat, noting that it is “in a class of its own.”
“The boat is not like any other,” wrote Bill Spring in the current issue of the magazine.
The judges liked the dual rigging, cockpit layout and the narrow hull and noted that it is easy to launch from a trailer and extremely shoal-water friendly and it’s light and responsive and “sneaky quick.” It’s a trailerable cruiser, Spring wrote, that works for overnight or longer trips and “can take you to shallow places that many coastal cruisers can’t.”
Marketed under the Ryder Boats label, the Presto 30 is built at Union River Boat Co. in Bucksport. There are two hulls already in the water and the company has orders for at least four more.
