AUGUSTA, Maine — A local man and former Mount View Junior High School science teacher was acquitted on two charges of possessing child pornography by a judge Monday, but will continue to face two other charges of the same crime.

Michael J. Douglas, 43, of Augusta, was facing four charges of possession of sexually explicit materials depicting a minor when he went on trial Monday in Sagadahoc County Superior Court. He allegedly had the files on both his work laptops and his home computer.

The charges were split between Waldo and Kennebec counties. The presiding judge acquitted Douglas of the Waldo County charges as the trial started because he didn’t feel there was sufficient evidence to support them.
