Should Maine allow a private prison?

Gov.-elect Paul LePage is working with officials in Milo to bring a privately owned and run prison to the town. Many other states contract with private companies to house their prisoners, but Maine law currently prevents such institutions from operating here.

Is it time to consider allowing private prisoners in Maine? Can they operate more inexpensively? What are the risks?
