BASS HARBOR – Gunther H. Meyer, 95, died Dec. 9, 2010, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born July 29, 1915, in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Paul Carl August and Johanna Lisetti (Ziegeler) Meyer. Gunther served in the German Army during World War II. He was employed as an industrial engineer during his working career. Gunther was a gunsmith and enjoyed boat building and loved to sail and travel. He especially enjoyed the time he spent in the city of Hamburg, Germany. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Ellsworth. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dorothy; son, Chris Meyer and his wife, Wendi, of Lamoine; brother, Werner Meyer; and sister, Claire Keil, both of Hamburg, Germany. He was predeceased by a daughter, Christel. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Burton Lowry officiating.
