Colby men knock off UM-Farmington

FARMINGTON — Mike Russell became a 1,000-point scorer in his collegiate career en route to a double-double with 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead his Colby College men past the University of Maine-Farmington 54-47 at Dearborn Gymnasium Thursday night.

Russell became the 35th 1,000-point scorer for the Colby men’s program. Eric Beaulieu chipped in with 11 points.

D.J. Gerrish from Rumford and Eric Taylor of Oakland each scored 11 for the Beavers while Yusuf Iman of Auburn scored 10.

At Wenham, Mass., balanced scoring helped the Bates College Bobcats build a 34-20 halftime lead and then run away from Gordon College in the second half.

Brian Ellis had 16 points to lead the Bobcats. John Squires and Mark Brust each scored 11 points and Thomas Deegan added 10.

David Dempsey scored 16 points to lead Gordon and Greg Walker added 12.
