EMCC men knock off CMCC

LEWISTON — Thelbert Green scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Eastern Maine Community College of Bangor earned its first men’s basketball victory at Central Maine Community College in several years by a 63-57 count Wednesday.

Jepethe Dubois added 13 points and Edson Pierre scored 10 points for the Golden Eagles.

Bronson Drewry led CMCC with a game-high 18 points, while while Nick Hinkley scored 13.

At Waterville, Jarad DeVaughn went 6-for-8 from the 3-point line and totaled 31 points in leading Thomas College to its first win after topping the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Andrew Duncanson added 21 points for Thomas. Francisco Alicea chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Travis Dorsey had eight points and nine rebounds.

Clifford McDonald paced the Owls with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Devon Peaslee scored 14 points.

At Machias, Will Lewis hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead the University of Maine at Machias to victory over the University of St. Thomas.

Zach Popewith scored 15 points to lead the Clippers while Nate Burke and Zach Armstrong each tallied 14 points. Lewis had 13 points and seven assists.

Women’s basketball

Colby 72, Maine Maritime 53

At Castine, three players scored 14 points as Colby College of Waterville stayed undefeated in beating Maine Maritime Academy on the road.

Diana Manduca, Rachael Mack and Julianne Kowalski each scored 14 points for the Mules. Aarika Ritchie added 10 points and Kowalski grabbed eight rebounds.

Brittany Hunt and Casey Everest both scored 11 points to pace the Mariners. Jess Stahl chipped in 10 points.

Karin Bird scored 13 points for Thomas and Ashley Allen had 10 points.
