ST. ALBANS, Maine — A mobile home on Pond Road was destroyed Monday night by a fire that had burned out of control before the first firefighters arrived. No one was injured.
Hartland Fire Chief Donald Neal said the residence, which was a mobile home with an attachment at 135 Pond Road, is a total loss but that the owner, Keith Gould, planned to replace the mobile home quickly.
Gould, who lived in the home alone, had left briefly at about 8 p.m. to give someone a ride home. A wood stove was blamed for the fire. Gould had no insurance, said Neal.
Gould, who is involved in a family construction business, helped fire crews by knocking down the burning structure so hot spots and embers could be doused more quickly. Crews from St. Albans, Hartland and Corinna went to the scene, while members of the Pittsfield Fire Department stood by at the Hartland station.
