HAMPDEN – Phong Minxay, 84, died peacefully Nov. 20, 2010, at her home. She was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Laos. She was a very hard worker and self-employed. She took care of everyone, especially her grandchildren, Som and Somphong. She was more like their mother and she risked her life for them when the Vietnam War spread into Laos. She got them across the Mekong River to safety while gunfire was on both sides of the water. She came to America in 1980 to Bangor. She will be sadly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Nang Ratsakongsy of Woonsocket, R.I.; her grandsons, Som Ratsakongsy and his wife, Julie, of Hampden, Nikro Ratsakongsy of Woonsocket, R.I., Kehk Beach and Somphong Douangasa, both of Kentucky; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be held Nov. 27 at Menards Funeral Home, Manville, R.I., and the local temple, where she will be at rest.
