Black & Decker has introducing new products that provide portable electrical power campers can use while on the road or at a campsite.

While cars and trucks produce direct current (DC), household appliances operate on alternating cur-rent (AC). Power inverters convert the vehicle’s DC output to AC for use with most appliances and a USB port allows charging of handheld devices.

For example, the 100 Watt Power Inverter inserts into a car’s DC port/cigarette lighter for cell phones, laptops, video games etc. The 500 Watt and 800 Watt Power Inverters attach to a car or truck battery to power everything from TVs, radio, grills, etc. for household power while camping, tailgating or at the beach.

The 100-watt iMobile Power Inverter, for example, has a pivoting plug folds for easy access and stor-age. A power/fault LED indicator shows normal operation, low input voltage and fault condition. A low-battery protection LED indicator warns against vehicle battery drain. This unit retails for $30.

For appliances and tools that require more juice the Black & Decker Power-it 2-in-1 Automotive 500 Watt Power Inverter offers 100 watts of power from inside a vehicle and 500 watts of power when con-nected to a car battery from under the hood.

When pluggen a vehicle’s 12 volt DC port (cigarette lighter) you can get 100 watts of power for two household outlets and a USB port to power or charge cell phones, PDAs, MP3 devices, laptops and other electronics.

When connected directly to your vehicle’s battery cables you can draw up to 500 watts of power to power more heavy-duty items such as a 20” TV (300 watts), power drill (320 watts), power sander (380 watts), 12” fan (200 watts) and more. It is Ideal for power away from home to enjoy the great outdoors or work in remote locations. There’s a low battery warning to prevent battery drain. Illuminated icons show ideal applications for 100 watt or 500 watt electrical devices. This inverter retails for about $65.

Power-it 800 Watt Power Inverter

And for even more output there’s an 800 Watt Power-it Power Inverter that connects directly to the battery to power more heavy-duty items such as a mini refrigerator (700 watts), corded reciprocating saw (720 watts), coffee maker (600 watts) or other devices that require 800 watts or less.

There is low battery protection as well. This unit retails for about $100.

And finally, with winter coming on, the cold weather will cause older car and truck batteries to dip be-low the starting threshold. The Black & Decker 500 Amp Instant Jump Starter allows you to jumpstart your car without another vehicle present. It also has a tire inflator, bright LED lights and a place to charge a cell phone.
