MARS HILL – Vera F. Shaw, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. She was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Blaine, daughter of James and Bernice (Tompkins) Gilman. Vera was a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, who devoted her life to taking care of her family. Her favorite pastimes were praying, reading her bible and mail order shopping. She was a lifelong member of United Baptist Church, Mars Hill. She is survived by a son, James Shaw and his wife, Deborah, of Mars Hill; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Shaw of Mars Hill; four grandchildren, Stacy Shaw, Stori Shaw, Erica McCrum and Ryan Shaw; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Shaw and Collin McCrum; several nieces and nephews; and four lifelong friends, including a special niece, Alta Weeks of Texas, Lois Belyea of Mars Hill, Norma Lowry of Bridgewater and Sybil Pierce of Blaine. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde E. “Pat” Shaw, in 2001; a son, Clyde E. “Butch” Shaw, in 1985; 11 brothers and sisters. The family expresses their thanks to the staff at Southern Acres Residential Care Facility, Westfield; and the staff at Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill, for all the excellent loving care given to Vera. Also, the family extends a special thank you to Glenda Bell who always went “above and beyond” in meeting Vera’s needs. Relatives and friends may call noon until the time of service 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
