As an avid follower of UMaine men’s ice hockey team I am not going to deny that Alfond Arena is a great place to watch a college hockey game — best atmosphere maybe in the nation to take in a game. However, it is definitely time for improvements at the arena.
It is hard for fans to first of all afford to pay to bring a family to a game but then to pay full price and not see half of the game like was the case this past Saturday night when I attended the game vs. Northeastern. We paid full price per ticket and were seated in what they call “obstructed view.” Having visited Fenway Park in the past, I have purchased “obstructed view” seats, which means you may have to maybe move a little to the right or left to be able to see certain parts of the park.
Not at UMaine, our seats were so bad that you could not even see half of the ice or the goaltender on that side. This is a shame for fans that don’t get to see many games in person and then have to deal with obstructed views, and having to instead watch that part of the action on the scoreboard, which we probably all could have had a better view from our living rooms!
This may be the worst fan experience I have ever had at UMaine, but there are other parts of the arena in which you can’t even see the scoreboard. Either UMaine needs to seriously reduce the prices of these tickets or better yet upgrade to a more fan-friendly environment.
I visited Boston University’s Agannis Arena a few weeks ago and saw UMaine play Boston University. The arena there is what UMaine should be looking at as a blueprint, very fan-friendly and a good view of the ice no matter where you sit.
Shame on UMaine for charging me full price for a seat where I missed at least half of the game. I will never purchase another seat in section MMM ever again and fans that don’t know, you should never purchase a ticket in that location of the arena or section FFF.
