Bucksport man charged with selling drugs near school

By Bill Trotter, BDN Staff

BUCKSPORT, Maine — A local man is facing elevated drug charges after he allegedly sold illegal prescription drugs to another person near a school, according to police.

Edmund Laurel Osborne, 51, is accused of selling 10 hydrocodone pills and one 80-milligram OxyContin pill to an unidentified person in June, according to Darrell O. Crandall, division commander of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Osborne was arrested Nov. 9 on a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, Crandall indicated Monday in an e-mail.

Osborne is facing an aggravated charge because the alleged drug transaction took place within 1,000 feet of a school. Crandall indicated he wasn’t sure which school in Bucksport was near the site of the alleged drug sale.

Osborne is scheduled to appear on the charge in Hancock County Superior Court on March 24, 2011, Crandall wrote in the e-mail.

“This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the sale of prescription painkillers in Hancock County,” Crandall said.
