CPL. ANDREW L. HUTCHINS

NEW PORTLAND – Cpl. Andrew L. Hutchins, 20, lost his life Nov. 8, 2010, in Khost province, at combat outpost Sabari, Afghanistan, while serving as a military policeman with the U.S. Army. He was born April 30, 1990, in Farmington, the son of Jeffrey and Robin. He received his training in Fort Campbell, Ky., and was assigned to the 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault Group. Andrew graduated from Carrabec High School in 2008, where he was a member of Willpower Weightlifting program, and played basketball and baseball. He was also president of Jobs for Maine Graduates program. Andrew was a great young soldier, husband, soon-to-be father, son, teacher and student. He is survived by his wife, Heather L. Hutchins of Solon; his daughter, Allyssa Braelynn Hutchins, who is due March 8, 2011; his mother, Robin Norwood and husband, Dwayne, of Waltham; his father, Jeffrey Hutchins and wife, Betsy, of Leeds; two brothers, Adam Poulin of New Portland and Benjamin Hutchins of Leeds; his mother-in-law, Robin and her husband, Michael Crane, of Solon; his father-in-law, Kenneth Couto and longtime companion, Jess, of Riverside, R.I.; four brothers-in-law, Kenneth Jr. of Riverside, R.I., Thomas Crane, Dakota Crane and Michael Crane of Solon; maternal grandparents, Sharon Rinaldi and husband, John, of Surry and Thomas Veazie of Blue Hill; paternal grandparents, Lewis P. Hutchins of Blue Hill and Joanna Olsen of Bradley; stepgrandparents, Paul and Marnie Gardner; and by many more extended family members and friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Augusta Armory, Western Avenue, Augusta. Committal with full military honors will be afterward at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to the Andrew L.
