Couple gets OK to open marijuana clinic in Auburn

The Associated Press

AUBURN, Maine — A Maine couple has received approval to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Auburn.
Tim and Jennifer Smale’s plan to open a dispensary in a former furniture store in the Auburn Plaza has been approved by the city’s planning board.
John Thiele, the medical marijuana program manager for the state Department of Health and Human Services, tells the Morning Sentinel that marijuana probably will be available at the facility in mid-March.
The Smales were selected by the department to open one of the state’s first eight medical marijuana dispensaries. There will be one in each of Maine’s public health districts.
Thiele says only one other dispensary operator, Leo Trudel, has nailed down a location for a clinic, in Aroostook County.
