BREWER — Maine-based USA East holds the coveted top seed in the Holiday Inn division while there’s a three-way tie for the lead in the Creative Digital bracket after the third day of the World Team Candlepin Bowling Championships at Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lane in Brewer.
USA East has a 57-15 record and leads Maria’s Sub of Massachusetts for the top spot.
Halifax Fairlanes/A+ of Nova Scotia and the Massachusetts teams of Lucky Strike and Total Chaos each had 56 points to share the lead in Creative Digital.
The top-seeded team in each division receives a bye and goes straight into the semifinals. Second- through fourth-ranked teams per division advance to the playoffs. Round robin play continues Friday morning with playoffs beginning in the afternoon.
MacLaughlin T&T of Nova Scotia sits fourth in the Creative Digital division with a 52-20 record, followed by Big Show Lanes, also of Nova Scotia, with a 40-32 mark.
In the Holiday Inn division, Vacationland of Maine sits third with a 44-28 record followed by New Brunswick’s Kingswood (40-32) and Crazy Train of Massachusetts (20-32).
Monday’s Knockout tournament winner, Matt McPhee of Halifax Fairlanes/A+, leads the tournament with a 132.09 average.
Fellow Halifax Fairlanes/A+ team member Mitch Seary posted the best single game of the day with 182 pins.
Brad McDonald of the Campbellton Lions team from New Brunswick had a three-game total of 456 pins, the best of the day.
The tournament concludes Saturday afternoon with the winning team taking home $10,000.
