Marshfield home destroyed by fire

MARSHFIELD, Maine — A large lakeside home on Long Lake Road was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon, likely fueled by brisk winds, a fire official said.

Because the home was destroyed in the blaze, no cause has yet been determined, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to investigate the fire Friday.

Machias Fire Chief Joey Dennison said no one was home when the house burned. He said the fire was reported by someone living on the opposite side of Long Lake who spotted smoke just after 3 p.m.

“By the time we got there, it was burned flat,” Dennison said. No one was injured.

The year-round home was owned by Dick Diamond, Dennison said Thursday. Diamond is not sure about his insurance coverage, Dennison said, and is being assisted by the Red Cross. Three fire departments — Marshfield, Machias and Wesley — responded to the report of fire.
