Portland man turns self in over 78 stolen computers

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Police say a 31-year-old man charged with stealing 78 computers from a Portland elementary school has turned himself in.

Portland Police say 31-year-old Brian J. Berry arrived at the police station with his mother at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Earlier in the day police had issued an arrest warrant for Berry.

Berry is charged with taking 33 Apple iMacs and 45 Apple MacBooks from the under-construction Ocean Avenue Elementary School.

Police say 61 of the computers have been recovered. The others remain missing.

The Portland Press Herald says Berry lived near the school. Police believe the computers were stolen over a period of time and no one noticed they were gone until last week.
