Portland man gets 22 months for pipe bombs

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Maine U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty II says a Portland man has been sentenced to 22 months in federal prison for illegal possession of unregistered pipe bombs.

U.S. District Judge Brock Hornby sentenced 30-year-old Michael Pressey on Tuesday. Pressey pleaded guilty in June.

Court records say the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Portland police raided Pressey’s home in August 2009 and seized 19 improvised explosive devices. In imposing the sentence, Hornby said he took into account the danger to neighbors and others in the community posed by the pipe bombs.

Pressey’s sentence is to be followed by three years of supervised release.
