BDN staff reports

LAKE KARAPIRO, New Zealand — Anna Goodale of Camden is a world champion again.

Goodale, the Camden Hills of Rockport graduate who won a gold medal as part of the U.S. women’s eight rowing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, teamed with fellow Mainer Elle Logan of Boothbay Harbor and the rest of the U.S. team to win the women’s eight gold medal at the World Rowing Championships on Sunday.

Goodale and Logan, two of the Olympic gold medalists on the U.S. team along with coxswain Mary Whipple, led at each 500-meter interval en route to a winning time of 6 minutes, 12.42 seconds. That was four seconds faster than second-place Canada, with Romania third. Great Britain, the Netherlands and China rounded out the six teams that participated in the final.
