Baring man killed in Baileyville crash

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

BAILEYVILLE, Maine — A Baring man was killed late Saturday after he crashed on U.S. Route 1 at Bailey Hill.

Chad M. Casey, 25, died at the scene of the crash, according to Washington County Deputy Brandon Parker.

Casey was headed south when his 1999 Dodge pickup drifted across the northbound lane and plunged into a deep embankment.

Parker said the vehicle clipped a guy wire and then struck a large maple tree on the driver’s side door.

Parker said Casey had just left his parents’ home after a short visit. He was wearing his seat belt.

Neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, Parker said Monday, and officers were still investigating the possibility that Casey fell asleep or had a medical incident.

Parker was assisted at the scene by Calais and Baileyville fire departments and Down East Ambulance.
