Maine teenager gets help with hospital bills

The Associated Press

KENNEBUNK, Maine — A Maine community is coming together to help an 18-year-old high school student injured in a car crash pay her medical expenses.

A Sunday fundraising walk in Kennebunk raised $17,000 to help the family of Ashley Dubois pay the medical bills due after her family’s insurance policy paid its maximum benefit for rehabilitation.

The Portland Press Herald says her mother, Charlene Dubois, has been denied coverage under MaineCare.

About 350 people took part in the walk organized by Kennebunk High School senior Teddy Nichols.

Ashley Dubois was injured in September when the car she was driving was hit by another vehicle.

She now walks with help from a walker and needs additional rehabilitation before she makes a full recovery.
